Your
Board of Education has eight members,
seven of whom are
elected at large and serve 4-year terms. An eighth member, selected from the
high school Student Advisory Committee, serves for one year. The
Superintendent of the school district is the ex-officio Secretary to the
Board. (Note: During the
November 4, 2008
General Election, four Board members will be elected by Trustee Areas.

Board of Education Responsibilities
| The
Board of Education is elected by the community to provide leadership and
citizen oversight of the district’s 52,000 student schools. Among its
many responsibilities, the Board establishes a long-term vision for the
district and sets district policies and goals, while the Superintendent
carries out the policies and manages the day-to-day operations of the
district.
Your Board is also committed to:
- Conscientiously deciding how to use
the district’s financial resources.
- Ensuring accountability to the local
community, including personnel, programmatic and fiscal
accountability.
- Providing community leadership and
advocacy at the local, state and national levels on behalf of all
students and public education.
