Geographic Enticements to
Sacramento . . . |
| |
|
The City of
Sacramento is home to approximately 460,000 people, as well as to the State
Capitol. Its location—halfway between the Pacific coast and the Sierra
Nevada, 90 miles northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, 100 miles west of
Lake Tahoe—affords residents with a truly extraordinary array of cultural
and recreational activities. The city has a number of professional sports
teams, a symphonic orchestra, several performing theater groups, a rich
spectrum of ethnic communities and restaurants, and a burgeoning
high-technology community. A sampling of annual events include the
Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, California State Fair, California International
Marathon, Waterfront Festival, Free Museum Day, Grape Escape, Gold Rush
Days, Juneteenth, Festival de la Familia, Pacific Rim Street Festival, and
New Year’s Eve Sky Concert. |

Sacramento
offers a multitude of truly livable neighborhoods with housing that is
affordable to virtually all income levels. Temperatures average in the
nineties in the summer and in the fifties in winter; but for most of the
year, the sunshine and low humidity provide Sacramentans with a standing
invitation to enjoy the outdoors.
The
Sacramento Unified School District has an enrollment of approximately
48,000. Postsecondary educational opportunities in the Sacramento area
include a University of California campus at Davis (including a medical
school in Sacramento), California State University at Sacramento, three
community colleges (Sacramento City College, American River College and
Consumes Community College), the University of Pacific law school
(Mc George), and a number of private business and vocational colleges.
Sacramento
is a city teeming with educational, professional, and recreational
opportunities. It is urban enough to provide a rich spectrum of life styles;
yet its location and accessibility to the many natural wonders of Northern
California can make living here seem almost small town.
